life has all hues and cries...
its exam time again, when the creativity of a person is at its peak. i think if a person is kept under exam pressure then he is the most creative person in the world. an engineer, per se, thinks of all the other things in the world except exam questions in such situation. i started a strange journey of mba which is a dream of every s/w engg. now im going to tell you my boring story. on the 3rd day of my mba i met a guy who looked very simple, hailed from a smal town of haryana.we were introduced to each other by a common friend. i came to know that guy was from same the same background as i was. over the time he cherished the same dreams which i did. we both were frustrated with the placecom's workload. everytime we met, we used to evaluate what good have we done by joining a b-school. since we didnt have a good ratio of fairer sex so a boy- boy friendship was obvious(dont think otherwise). by the time our 1st trim was getting over. we both were getting kicked by most of the companies in our summer placement. believe me if you share the same background and face the same situation together you both are gonna be best friends. nothing but these common features will bring you together. once after getting kicked in 3 companies we both were sitting in asiad (a restaurant near our college). after having enough of our share he started, a very emotional connotation. gosh this idiot shared the same history as i had. a middle class background. peer pressure led to NIT. couple of years in IT. and then after mba to satisfy our ego. we both were not ass-lickers and hated sycophancy like anything. we had our own principles. we both decided to club together to chase our dreams. we ignored our placecom works and started participating in all the events to add values in our CVs. we had a nice frequency match, what you call resonance in technical term. we understood each other's need and demand. i am a bit reluctant but he was aggressive. our teaming up worked. it fetched us 3-4 all india comp certificates in a month. we made our project team and it worked too. i a marketing guy was good at finance papers and he, having inclination towards finance, was too good for marketing. but as it is said in Panchatantra, by Vishnu Sharma, you should not let others enter into your friendship. there was some misscommunication in our project group. i was accused of not doing any work by a couple of our project mates. it is truly said that who you admire and love most you show your anger max at him. same happened with me. ego is too high for me. that's my inherent nature which no one can understand. i complained to him. he taking care of me published it in the group as if asking who is the person behind this mischief. my ego got hurt. i could not resist to show my anger at such incidence. we both knew that our friendship stood first before all but you know like story in Mcbeth takes new turns because of misscommunication. you need to correct it as soon as possible. sooner is better and i got it late. the gap became so wide that it became very difficult to bridge it. i am a kind of person who is emotionally very weak, you will be if you have never stayed with your parents. i am not vocal that's my another weakness. life went on. its been ten days. we were bakar partners, kicking asses of everyone but without him there is no post in our bakar group (yes we do have a bakar group to get some tp in the most hectic life of mba). i tried to approach him but all in vain. he approached me after the presentation which he almost screwed...:P but at that moment i got so emotionally overwhelmed that i couldnt even utter a single word. in the hectic life of mba, which makes you work for 18-20 hrs a day that too every day you hardly find a friend with who you can share your thoughts and you are not sure whether he will understand or not unless he shares the same values, culture, tradition, academic and social background, successes and failures in the same proportion. i found one but everything went wrong. i dont have time-machine to go back and correct it. i am on the verge of loosing a gem of my life and i have almost lost all hopes to get those precious moments restored. i wish i could be more vocal, explicit and a bit more brash to communicate my feelings across other's minds. i, today, am down with 102 degree fever staring at roof cherishing all those moments and cursing my inabilities waiting for a happy wave. there is only one relationship which a human being makes in his life of his choice that is friend. you come across hundreds of such people but you get only few who come forward and share the same view and if you gotta lose such beings you have a biggest negative mark on the asset side of balance sheet of your life. i have already done such an act and there is no use crying over the split milk.

First Trimester of MBA

Leaving behind graduation’s semester
We are facing in a year three trimester
The course material is very hefty
Instead of one-day it is twenty-twenty
Knowledge from work experience is none
Sitting in the class again is really fun
Lots of assignment lots of presentation
There is no time just for contemplation
Some subjects rock, some just screw
Stats we crack accounts we r hardly through
The toughest is paper of communication
It came as if I never had an English education
Organizational behavior was bit realistic
But the case study was hardly holistic
Not full of gas was the paper of marketing
All about promotion, segment & positioning
Another was corporate social responsibility
Was there anywhere any practical possibility
Before we say our MBA course rocks
On our mind and door end-term knocks
No cheating, no copying, no impersonation
That is exam’s fairness’ justification
We rocked and we rolled without any damage
Exam was over, somehow we could manage
Before we took a breath of relaxation
2nd trim came with all exasperation
This cycle will continue for 5 more times
Then we will sing hopefully our MBA rhymes

Review of Two States by Chetan Bhagat

After around 10 years i was going home for Diwali. i needed stuffs for TP(timepass) in a boring journy of 2500 kms. taking some time off my busy schedule i peeped into crossword@ juhu-pvr mall. Ohh another novel by Chetan Bhagat. i picked that as an option for some tp.
Chetan Bhagat is kinda admired in the unbound social circle of indian engineers (gonna be MBAs). he pours certain stuffs with which his readers can relate themselves. he has very delicately elaborated the cultural distinctions between north and south india.
i had the opportunity of spending a big chunk of my life in south india. it is always a different experience knowing all four states, their languages and culture. i always start learning a language by looking at the advertisement hoardings. it has been the inability of the marketing managers(who are paid coz of their creativity(?))to come out with a new tagline in a regional language. once you know the language you know the respective culture by more than 50%. a guy like me born in north india can see the stark differences in the culture, tradition, lifestyle, working style and many more paramaeters in both the cultures.
coming back to "2 States", when i was rushing through the initial pages of the novel i cud very well relate how anyone takes the management course. every engg pursuing an MBA realizes the mathematical aspect of a theory first before its practical application. obviously i am not of the protagonist actor's league but yes i see a hyperbola first in an IC curve before knowing satisfaction or dissatisfaction in a consumer. the same L-shaped utility curve gets more perplexed. bell shaped curves can be used more than just in relative grading. the night-outs for doing a microeconimcs assignment is really stressfull.same is the concern shown by Krish Malhotra, the hero. though he was lucky enough to get an eco-gold medalist and beautifull companion to help him out. all MBA students are not lucky like him. some parts were unrealistic like -finding so easily a stunning girl in MBA (no offense meant for fairer sex), having such a bad relationship between father and son, proposing a girl during her final interview (in bollywood style) and many more but without these things you wont find a unique story. At the same time there are many realistic facts like long cases of OB(organizational behavior), the troublesome assignments of eco, and yes the class participation in an MBA college. i must say he remembers his MBA days very well.
he has put all his normal stuffs like it happens in all his novels. the story takes a twist when their MBA comes to an end. if you ever had a chance to experience the two cultural poles of India you will really like the story. In india at both the poles certain unquoted tradition and norms always govern an individual in taking every decision of his life be it his education, job and even marriage. Of course there are certain intermediate steps if you want to marry a girl from a culturally different family. Chetan Bhagat has done an excellent job in taking out the minute details of both the culture. when i was in tamilnadu, i observed every tamil family is so much passionate about their culture and language. Carnatic music is really a must-do work in their morning rituals. they are so cautious even in turning banana leaves after meals. i have never seen any other people eating snacks "murukku" so passioantely. he has even mentioned a loud sound "ninadam" at every traditional tamil marriage ceremony. only one thing went undigested was Ananya's father (being a traditional Tamil Brahmin) was such a big boozer.
On the other hand, Krish's family was a typical north indian family. their delhi base had made them more prone to show-off. his mother is depicted as a typical north indian mother with all emotional drama. a high possessiveness for her son and an emotional unstability on her spouse's part is the main drive in the story.she has proved to be a major hurdle in their marriage like any K-series soap of star plus. finally Krish's father, who is a dormant throughout, enters as the real hero or chief negotietor and both family happily accepts each other.
I will recommend this book as must-read for all those who have faced cultural differences in thier life, engg who are or want to pursue MBA, who want to fall in love or already in love and want to persuade their family for an arranged marriage. it is indeed a good tp.

Mahima of Sanskrit
Hi friends,
Thanks for your response on my previous post. As the topic suggests I am going to write something on Sanskrit today. I have been very deeply attached with Sanskrit like any other Indian. Although I have very limited knowledge but there are certain facts which I would like to mention here. These are not from any website but my own research.
1. Everyone knows that Sanskrit was the basis of all the Indian languages. All Indian languages derive its root from Sanskrit. The grammar of all the languages in India including Urdu are directly derived from Sanskrit. Most of the words used in Indian languages are either directly derived from Sanskrit (tatsam) eg “swapanam” or distorted form of Sanskrit words (tadbhav or apabhramsha). Although Tamil is the only language which is supposed to be developed separately and it is not based on Sanskrit but I have seen many Sanskrit words are used frequently in Tamil too like Shwasam (breathe).
2. Now, let’s come to the interesting part of it. We the English speaking Indians are always fascinated by a question that “If B-U-T =but (as pronounced) then why not P-U-T =put (as pronounced) and vice versa”. As a matter of fact both these words are derived from Sanskrit. The Europeans did not change their pronunciation and accepted as such. “Put” is a kriya (verb) and “but” is an awyaya (conjunction) with the same meaning and usage. In Sanskrit both these words are pronounced as put and but as “t” of Tamil but in English we don’t have any such sound so it is pronounced as “t” of Texas.
3. We all know English is a derived language. It has very few roots of its own. Most of the words are derived from different languages like French, Latin etc. . So because of our old trade relations many words got their positions in English dictionary as well. I will quote another example: we know the adjectives in English have different degrees viz. comparative and superlative. So each adjective has got forms in superlative degree and comparative degree as well , for ex- high->higher->highest. Now here is my question why is it not good-> “gooder”-> “goodest” why is it good->better-> best ? I will tell you the reason. In Sanskrit the meaning of better is “vruhatar” and meaning of best is “vishishta”. Now these words were carried by the traders in ancient days and we see a distorted form of vruhatar as “behatar” in middle-eastern languages and directly adopted in Urdu as well. Can you see the gradual transformation in the words VRUHATAR-> BEHATAR-> BETTER (u must remember people’s accent change from one place to another) and VISHISHT->BEST.
4. On the above mentioned analogy I would like to mention another example. There is a large African bird called Ostrich. In Sanskrit it is known as “Ushtramrug”. Now see the transformation.
USHTRAMRUG->USHUTURMRUG->SHUTURMRUG (as used in middle east and in Urdu)
->USTRAMRUCH->OSTRICH
I am repeating middle-eastern pronunciation repeatedly because you must know that in ancient days India had trade relations with Europe through middle-east and central Asia. If you can recall there was a Silk Route as well describing my explanation in a better way.
That’s all for today friends. A lot more to come in later posts.
Thank You.

A Poem Of My Life
When I passed my SSC with flying color
Everyone was praising me for my endeavor
They said you should keep your goals clear
And leave behind all the fear
The best way to live in this world dear
Is to become an engineer
What were the priorities of life I couldn’t foresee
I started the preparation of IIT JEE
There was a good reward of my knowledge
I got admission in a good engineering college
Life was cool, placement was for sure
There was nothing to worry about anymore
I realized the different dimensions of life
I cut my day into different pieces with a knife
Some part for sports , some parts for fun
For studies I was left with none
After four years I got a job of 5 lakh
Now there was nothing to look back
s/w jobs in the beginning thrilled
but after few years my fun got killed
I realized this field is not a god’s grace
I shouldn’t have come to this place
I thought a lot and started to pray
Oh God! Please get me into an MBA
After a few days I thought I was no fool
See now I am into a B- School
Such a nice crowd in the college I must admire
We are the best, set the whole world on fire
In Stats we rocked, in Accounts we got screwed
Engineers are not always the best, it got proved
Then came the summer placement day
To shortlist no1 knows companies follow which way
Could not help a pray to the almighty
There is no brand value of IIT or NIT
I could have rocked I could be a bomb
Instead of engineering If I would have done a B Com
All my efforts to add points in my CV is wasted
In so many companies I am not shortlisted
Please pray to god to give companies the ultimate “Gyaan”
Not all the engineers are 5 point someone’s Ryan
I promised to rock, I promised to roll on
But now I have become a vagabond
Now I am cursing with each passing day
Why i took a decision to go for an MBA
Everyone was praising me for my endeavor
They said you should keep your goals clear
And leave behind all the fear
The best way to live in this world dear
